The New York Times reports

“If you have a dog sitting on your desk, it’s always better if he has a nice scent,” said Gail Marcus, 60, who brings her dog, an 8½-pound Pomeranian named Nicky, to her office in Long Island City, Queens. (Nicky may have a small body “but he has a lot of coat,” she explained.)

Ms. Marcus sprays him with a scent called Sexy Beast, which she discovered at Henri Bendel’s about a year ago for $65 for a 3.4-ounce bottle. (There is also a limited holiday bling version of Sexy Beast, with encrusted Swarovski crystals, which retails for $850.)

We need a Consumer Reports style test for this to see if it actually works. And, oh yeah, it’s 100% vegan, according to the website.

The editor of the Scottish Terrier and Dog News completely understands why terriers have the reputation they do for being hard headed: they deserve it. Before she acquired Bridget just over a year ago, the Scottie News editor had different non-terrier breeds of dogs and she can state authoritatively that they were much easier to train. Yet the editor of the Scottish Terrier and Dog News remains determined and she wants to share some inspiration with other Scottie dog owners who face the same plight.

YouTube has several examples of well-trained Scottish Terriers starting with this anonymous Scot

The ubiquitous Baily can also be seen hula hooping obediently as Riley, an older gentleman, looks on

And then, of course, there are Boone and Kenzie, the most famous of the well-behaved Scotties

Even Spencer, whose owner describes him as “kinda dumb” silly (When Spencer’s owner saw that he was featured here, she changed the headline so we have followed her lead) compared to her other dogs, Mackenzie the Dachshund and April the Boston Terrier, has mastered the “bang” trick”

So, Scottie dog owners, take heart and read these very interesting training tips from Scottish Terrier Rescue of North Alabama. One day, we too will have our dogs up on YouTube.

Or else we can send them off to jail to be trained by hardened criminals.

Barney Bush: working dog

by AnnB   1 comment

Nov 6, 2008 Update: See video of Barney Bush, the first dog biting a Reuters reporter plus the stories about Barney the Scottish Terrier that you’ve never seen before and pictures of young Jackie Kennedy with a Scottie dog.

Update December 2007: The Holiday video is out

Picture+74 Barney Bush: working dogBeing the White House dog strikes the Scottish Terrier and Dog News as a pretty good gig. You have a huge house and grounds, plenty of staff to spoil you (apart from Karl Rove), access to Air Force One, fame, groupies, you name it.

But don’t anyone think that the presidential Scottish Terriers, Barney and Miss Beazley, don’t have to sing for their supper. A Beltway insider and Scottie dog owner notified us that the White House dogs get to work on their Christmas video as early as November.

Meanwhile, across the pond, another loyal Scottie News reader reports that in the new BBC documentary about the Queen, Barney and Miss Beazley are shown as they get set to meet the monarch. Alas, no relevant excerpts are on YouTube and, while ABC has bought the U.S. rights, the date for airing the show hasn’t been set yet.

Scottie dog, Scottie dog where have you been?

The publisher and editor of the Scottish Terrier and Dog News is not a sentimental type but there are a few things that are sure to bring tears to her eyes. Among them are weddings, funerals and dog rescue stories. There’s just something about an animal resuce that turns out well that gives you faith. So, here, from the Scottish Terrier Club of America are the rescue tales of Miss Fiona, McGregor and Meg. Pass the hankies please.

Scottie dog video: That is one tough mama!

Presenting “The Stick and the Scottish Terriers.” It reminds us a bit of Mommie Dearest, who was, of course, a Scottie dog owner in real life, as we previously reported.——————- For more Scottish Terrier and Scottie Dog videos, click on the video label directly below.

This shot of former first lady, Grace Coolidge, with Rob Roy the dog and Barney the White House Scottish Terrier, reminds us that are Beltway insider readers have been awfully quiet lately.
