It’s been a bit of a rough week so we’ll probably take the long weekend off.In the mean time, why not read all the tales of celebrity Scottish Terriers in our archives. Famous Scottie owners include Shirley Temple, Eva Braun, George Bush and the late Polish president, Lech Kaczynski.

If I don’t see you, have a good long weekend.

Wow! I’ll let you all comment on how dog raising techniques have changed just about as much as child rearing habits. Go to it. And, while you’re at it, here’s a still shot of Shirley with a Scottish Terrier and friend.

The Los Angeles Times recently interviewed Rainer, who won two best actress Oscars and turned 100 in January.

Rainer says she never read her contract; her only condition was that she be allowed to bring her beloved Scottish terrier, Johnny, with her from Europe. “I was permitted to take my Scottie with me,” she says. ” I have a photograph here upstairs [at the Beverly Wilshire] of Johnny. I loved my Scottie.”

Alas, the Scottie News has not been able to find a photo of Johnny. If you know where one is, please let us know.

In the mean time, browse the Famous Scottish Terrier archives to see Scotties belonging to Humphrey Bogart, Joan Crawford and Julie Andrews among others.

Update: And heeere’s Johnny. One of the Scottie News‘ knowledgeable readers/detectives came through for us — as always.

Someone at Hopewell Furnace has a fuzzy memory…

McKearney has been in attendance at all the Fala Galas to date – (we have the “winner of the Fala Look alike contest” certificates and ribbons to prove it!) and will be there again this year!!!

It is a wonderful event and proved a great way to socialize a young Scottie!!!

McKearney certainly does look like Fala. He’s definitely got the shaggy look going on.

The Franklin Delano Roosevelt library has only three photos of the former president in a wheelchair and one of them is with his granddaughter and Fala, his beloved Scottish Terrier. Fala was notoriously shaggy, so much so that in this photo, it’s hard to make out his features.

An interviewer asks the American Idol about his Scottish Terrier, Dublin: PJS: Does your dog tour with you? He did, and then we were in New York and he got a little anxious while I was out and destroyed my hotel room. My dog’s way more rock star than I could ever be. He’s back ...

FDR’s beloved Fala featured in really bad novel

by AnnB   3 comments

In the best case scenario, this dismal excerpt from a novel about President Franklin Delano Roosevelt and his Scottish Terrier, Fala, is satire. In the worst case scenario it’s just really bad writing. I don’t have the wherewithal to figure it out, dear readers, so I leave it up to you: A half a world ...
