This video from Runner’s World, captures a photo shoot of dogs and their human running partners. We’d like to dedicate it to the marathon-running readers of the Scottish Terrier and Dog News who hit the wall all alone and dogless. We know you’re out there.
One of the things I love about Toronto is that they allow leashed dogs on the streetcars and subways. It’s a rarity in North America so when I see a woman like this abusing the system, and potentially spoiling it for responsible dog owners, it really makes me furious. I took her picture on Saturday, but she was oblivious. Something tells me that might be her normal state of mind.
Dozens of salmonella infections in toddlers have been traced to dry pet food, the first time human infections have been linked to dry dog and cat food, health officials say.
The infections occurred from January 2006 through October 2008 in 21 states. More than 23,000 tons of pet food were recalled, affecting 105 brands, and the manufacturing plant, in western Pennsylvania, was shut in 2008.
The link between salmonella and dry pet food was described by health officials from several states and the Centers for Disease Control and Preventionin a paper published Monday on the Web site of the journal Pediatrics. Officials referred to the factory only as “Plant X.” Altogether, 79 people were infected, including 32 children age 2 or younger.
Long-time readers might recall that the Scottie News reported on one of the cases in question. Strangely enough that story notes that the dog food was produced by Mars Petcare at its Pennsylvania plant and the affected brands included Pedigree and Special Kitty.

Update: A reader writes, “My former beloved Scottie, Duncan, would sit in the car (windows part open) while I ran a quick errand and if other dogs would come around, he’d bark and they’d bark at him, then he would start honking on the horn to show them up. The he’d draw a crowd of humans, laughing him on, and I never could get him to stop except by taking him with me or stay home. Show off.”
The New York Times reports on a new phenomenon: Stephens joins a growing number of colleges putting out a welcome mat for pets. They include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the State University of New York at Canton, which allow cats in some dorm rooms; and Eckerd College in South Florida and Washington & ...
